This group has currently 12 students. Most students have one Dutch speaking parent while a few come from a Dutch speaking household. As a result, the levels of Dutch varies between the students. We have noticed that working with rhymes is beneficial to the development of a vocabulary. Thus, we have worked extensively with Annie M.G. Schmidt's book Beertje Pippeloentje. One of the stories talked about a sleep-over, after which we made a suitcase that was sent home each week with a different student. With the suitcase is a book in which the parents can write the "adventures" of the week. These adventures are then shared with the class. We also sing typical Dutch Songs with the children.

We also stress hands-on tasks. For example: The children are given the instruction in Dutch to walk, jump etc.. Every week, a book is read to the class. The books of Dick Bruna are favorites, probably because of its use of rhyme. These books are reread many times so that the kids start to know them by heart. The teacher made a Dutch book entitled "Brown bear, brown bear, what do you see". The pages are laminated and the students could color a black-and-white version. They were very proud of their own books!

When necessary, the teacher will create colorful handouts based on the story at hand. These handouts are sent home with the children who can then practice the words throughout the week.

We celebrate all Dutch holidays, such as Sinterklaas, Koninginnedag and Carnaval. Once a year we go on a fieldtrip to a Dutch attraction or event. Last year we went to Temecula to bake speculaasjes at a Dutch bakery. We also visited a Dutch farm and listened to “draaiorgel-muziek”. We usually end the schoolyear with a “film-matinee”: We watch a recently released Dutch movie with the kids. Last year we watched “De Kameleon”, a movie based on a popular Dutch book series.

We have a library with many Dutch books. The students are allowed to check out one book per week.

Finally, to make sure that the students don’t forget the Dutch language, they are given educational materials over the Summer.
